Beckett & Cranfield University

Cranfield University currently have an OpenScape Voice (OSV) on premise telephony solution, providing services for around 1,800 users.

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the ability to provide a more stable telephony platform for home working was also required. As the College were already using Microsoft Teams for internal communications, migrating users to Teams was the obvious choice.

Challenges arose due to the cost of Microsoft Calling Plans and traditional Direct Routing per user per month costs, plus existing contracts for SIP trunks which meant that migrating numbers would be expensive.

As one of the few OSV partners in the UK, Becketts were able to provide both ongoing maintenance support and Team’s migration.  This involved providing engineering support to upgrade the OSV and existing SBCs to provide Teams Enabled SIP trunks, and working with the University to set up and manage Teams users.

The project started in April 2021 and users are currently being migrated across to Teams as required.
