With the nicer improving weather, Microsoft Teams has warmed up with a strong focus on performance, AI integration, and user experience. Here’s a round-up of what’s new and what it means for you.
Smarter Collaboration with AI
Microsoft has added additional AI across Teams. In June, the AI assistant in the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal was introduced, allowing admins to ask “how-to” questions, extract inventory and health data, and manage Teams meeting spaces more efficiently. This is part of a broader push to embed AI into everyday workflows, including AI-powered call transfer notes in Teams Phone, which automatically generate summaries when transferring calls
Voice & Call Enhancements
Teams Phone saw several improvements:
- Silent Call Testing (rolling out in August) will allow you to run 60-second test calls silently when users are idle—ideal for diagnosing network issues without user disruption
- Call Transfer Enhancements now include AI-generated notes, improving context when passing calls between colleagues
- New Licensing Tools in the Teams Admin Centre allow remote assignment of license keys to shared lines and speed dials—perfect for common area phones
Accessibility & Compliance
In response to the European Accessibility Act, Real-Time Text (RTT) support has been added to Teams clients and Rooms. This feature displays text character-by-character as it’s typed, improving accessibility for users with hearing or speech impairments.
Admin & IT Tools
The Teams Client Health Dashboard is now live in the Admin Centre, offering visibility into client versions, crash reports, and launch failures allowing you to proactively manage issues.
Streamlined User Experience
The new Teams app continues to roll out with:
- Faster performance and reduced memory usage.
- Familiar layout with full feature parity to classic Teams.
- Multi-Tenant Multi-Account (MTMA) support for users juggling multiple organisations. (Great with our Teams Enabled SIP Trunks for simple management of multiple tenancies!)
Looking Ahead
Expect more AI-driven features, deeper integration with Microsoft 365 Copilot, and continued enhancements to Teams Rooms and device management. Microsoft is also retiring Microsoft Mesh in December, signalling a shift in focus toward more practical collaboration tools
